Everything Koala does, in the order you’ll meet it.

Add the gadget

On any Jira dashboard, choose Edit → Add gadget and search for Koala Chart. Add as many as you like — each gadget is its own chart with its own configuration.

Configure a chart

• Chart type — donut, bar, line, area, KPI tile, or table. Switching type re-uses the same data instantly; nothing refetches.
• Group by — status, assignee, priority, labels, components, versions, resolution, project, or a date field. Date fields (created, resolved, due date) bucket by day and drive the line and area charts; long ranges re-bucket to weeks or months automatically.
• Source — pick a project, a saved filter, or write JQL. An empty JQL charts issues created in the last 30 days.
• Starters — an unconfigured gadget offers one-click starting points (“Issues by status”, “Created last 30 days”, …). Click one, adjust, save.

Reading a chart

• Hover any slice, bar, or point for the exact count.
• Results are cached for 15 minutes per person; the footer shows when the chart was computed, and Refresh recomputes it on the spot.
• Large filters aggregate in the background with a live progress bar — there is no size cap; a 50,000-issue filter simply takes a little longer on its first run.
• Every viewer sees a chart of the issues their Jira account can see. Two people on the same dashboard may legitimately see different numbers.

Export a chart

The gadget footer has XLSX, PDF, and PNG links. XLSX contains the grouped numbers with a share column; PDF contains the chart as vector art (the table type exports a paginated table); PNG is a crisp 2× raster for slides. Files are generated in your browser — nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Scheduled exports

• Open Schedules in the gadget footer. The form schedules the chart as currently configured; choose a name, format (XLSX or PDF), cadence (daily, weekly, monthly), and an hour. Hours are UTC.
• Schedules are unlimited. Each fires on an hourly sweep, so a run lands within the hour after its scheduled time.
• Run now fires any schedule immediately — a manual run is identical to a scheduled one.
• Every run is kept for seven days under Recent runs, with in-app download. Schedules and runs are private to the person who created them.

Limits worth knowing

• Charts show the top groups and fold the rest into Other (tables list up to 24 rows plus Other). Time axes always keep every bucket.
• A group field with hundreds of distinct values (someone charts by summary) fails with a clear message rather than an unreadable chart.
• Line and area charts need a date field in Group by.
